Synthesis of butyl acetate
If you want to make butyl acetate, you need to understand the method. First prepare acetic acid and butanol, these two are the base materials. Take an appropriate amount of catalyst, sulfuric acid is often used, which can promote the speed of reaction and increase the yield.
In a clean flask, pour acetic acid, butanol and catalyst in a certain proportion. Place the flask on the heating device, and use a water bath or an oil bath to control its temperature. When heating, it needs to be stirred slowly to make the material mix evenly and the reaction is smooth.
When the reaction is carried out, the reaction of acetic acid and butanol is esterified, and the butyl acetate and water are produced. The reaction formula is as follows: $CH_ {3} COOH + C_ {4} H_ {9} OH\ underset {\ Delta} {\ overset {H_ {2} SO_ {4}} {\ rightleftharpoons}} CH_ {3} COOC_ {4} H_ {9} + H_ {2} O $. This reaction is reversible, so the yield of butyl acetate should be increased, or the amount of reactant should be increased, or the amount of product should be reduced, and the equilibrium should be shifted to the right.
After the reaction is completed, move the reaction solution into the separation funnel. Wash with an appropriate amount of water to remove the sulfuric acid and unreacted acetic acid. Wash it with saturated sodium carbonate solution, neutralize the remaining acid, and remove the sulfuric acid. Then wash it with water several times to remove the residual salts.
After washing, the organic phase is dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate or anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the water in it is removed. Then, by distillation, pure butyl acetate is obtained. Collect the fraction of its specific boiling point, and the finished product is obtained.
Preparation of butyl acetate, with care in each step and control of its conditions, can obtain the best effect and obtain a high-purity product.
