Preparation of lead acetate
Preparation of lead acetate
Method 1: Reaction of lead with acetic acid
Lead and acetic acid chemically react to obtain lead acetate. Take an appropriate amount of metal lead and place it in a clean reaction vessel. Slowly add a certain concentration of acetic acid solution, and bubbles can be observed during the reaction. This is because lead and acetic acid have a displacement reaction, and lead gradually dissolves to form lead acetate solution. The chemical reaction equation is: $Pb + 2CH_ {3} COOH = (CH_ {3} COO) _ {2} Pb + H_ {2}\ uparrow $. After the reaction, lead acetate crystals can be obtained from the solution by evaporation concentration, cooling crystallization and other operations.
Method 2: Reaction of lead oxide with acetic acid
React lead oxide ($PbO $) with acetic acid to prepare lead acetate. The lead oxide powder is added to the acetic acid solution, and as the reaction proceeds, the lead oxide gradually dissolves to form lead acetate. The reaction equation is: $PbO + 2CH_ {3} COOH = (CH_ {3} COO) _ {2} Pb + H_ {2} O $. The reaction is relatively mild. After the reaction is complete, the solution is filtered to remove unreacted impurities, and then pure lead acetate crystals are obtained by evaporation and crystallization.
Method 3: Reaction of lead carbonate with acetic acid
Lead acetate can also be prepared from lead carbonate ($PbCO_ {3} $) and acetic acid as raw materials. Lead carbonate is slowly added to acetic acid solution, lead carbonate and acetic acid undergo metathesis reaction, carbon dioxide gas will escape, and lead acetate solution will be formed at the same time. The reaction equation is: $PbCO_ {3} + 2CH_ {3} COOH = (CH_ {3} COO) _ {2} Pb + H_ {2} O + CO_ {2}\ uparrow $. After the reaction is completed, the generated carbon dioxide is removed, and then a series of operations such as evaporation concentration, cooling and crystallization can be used to obtain lead acetate products.
