Butyl acetate contains an ester group in its molecular structure. Ester, an organic compound formed by the reaction of a carboxylic acid (carboxylic acid or inorganic oxyacid) with an alcohol. Butyl acetate is prepared by esterification of acetic acid and butanol. Acetic acid has a carboxyl group (-COOH), butanol contains a hydroxyl group (-OH). When the two react, the hydroxyl group in the carboxyl group of acetate and the hydrogen atom in the butanol hydroxyl group combine to form water, and the remaining part is connected to form butyl acetate, which forms an ester group (-COO -).
Looking at the chemical properties, esters have a special aroma and can undergo hydrolysis reaction under certain conditions. Butyl acetate also has a pleasant aroma and can be hydrolyzed into acetic acid and butanol under the catalysis of acid or base, which is in line with the generality of esters.
