First, prepare the material

3. At the beginning of the operation
operation, first add ethanol to the round bottom flask, slowly inject sulfuric acid, and shake while adding to make the mixing smooth and prevent local overheating. Then the acetic acid is slowly dripped into the drip funnel, and the dripping speed should be slow to avoid overreaction. Heat the flask and gradually raise the temperature to 110-120 ° C. At this temperature, acetic acid and ethanol are easy to form esters. During the reaction, closely observe the temperature and dripping speed.
Fourth, separate
After the reaction is completed, the product is mixed with unreacted raw materials, catalysts and water. First move the reaction liquid to the separation funnel and let it stand for layering. Ethyl acetate has a density less than water and floats on the upper layer. Carefully separate the upper liquid to obtain a crude product. The crude product still contains impurities and needs to be refined. Wash it with saturated sodium carbonate solution to remove acetic acid; then wash it with saturated salt water to remove sodium carbonate; then dry it with anhydrous magnesium sulfate to remove water. Finally, distill and collect the fraction at 74-78 ° C to obtain pure ethyl acetate.
