Ethyl Acetate Making Method
The method of making ethyl acetate
If you want to make ethyl acetate, there are various methods.

First, take acetic acid and ethanol as materials, add concentrated sulfuric acid as a catalyst, and put it in a flask. First measure an appropriate amount of acetic acid, slowly pour it into the bottle, take ethanol again, and also inject it into it. The amount of the two, when in a suitable ratio, is about ethanol slightly more than acetic acid. Then, slowly inject concentrated sulfuric acid along the bottle wall, and shake it while pouring, so that the mixture is well mixed.

After the device is complete, heat it with an alcohol lamp, and then heat it to a moderate degree, not too much. When heating, the acetic acid and ethanol in the bottle react with esterification due to the catalysis of concentrated sulfuric acid. The reaction formula is: $CH_ {3} COOH + C_ {2} H_ {5} OH\ underset {\ Delta} {\ overset {concentrated sulfuric acid} {\ rightleftharpoons}} CH_ {3} COOC_ {2} H_ {5} + H_ {2} O $.

After the reaction is completed, the product is introduced to a container containing a saturated sodium carbonate solution. Because ethyl acetate is insoluble in water and has a density less than water, it floats on the liquid. Unreacted acetic acid can react with sodium carbonate; ethanol is soluble in water, so a purer ethyl acetate can be separated.

Second, acetyl chloride can also be reacted with ethanol. First take an appropriate amount of ethanol, put it in a container, and add acetyl chloride dropwise. This reaction is more violent, so the speed of dropwise addition should be slow. When the two meet, they react to form ethyl acetate and hydrogen chloride. The reaction formula is: $CH_ {3} COCl + C_ {2} H_ {5} OH\ longrightarrow CH_ {3} COOC_ {2} H_ {5} + HCl $. After the reaction, pure ethyl acetate can be obtained by distillation and other methods.

There is also a method of reacting acetic anhydride with ethanol. Mix acetic anhydride and ethanol in a certain proportion, and a little sulfuric acid can be added. During the reaction, the temperature and reaction process need to be controlled. The reaction formula is: $ (CH_ {3} CO) _ {2} O + C_ {2} H_ {5} OH\ longrightarrow CH_ {3} COOC_ {2} H_ {5} + CH_ {3} COOH $. After the reaction is completed, ethyl acetate can be obtained after separation and purification.

Although the method of making ethyl acetate is different, it is necessary to abide by the procedures and control the conditions to get good products.
