The step of ethyl acetate extraction
If you want to carry out the method of ethyl acetate extraction, you should prepare all kinds of things at the beginning. Take an appropriate amount of the liquid to be extracted and place it in the clean separation funnel. To extract the liquid, you must first check its properties and measure the amount to ensure proper operation.
Then, slowly pour in an appropriate amount of ethyl acetate. The dosage should also be determined according to the nature of the liquid to be extracted and the content of the desired extract. The time should be slow, so as not to splash the liquid, causing loss.
Add ethyl acetate, quickly close the plug of the separation funnel, and then hold it and shake it moderately. When shaking, pay attention to the change of pressure in the funnel, and open the piston in time to drain it, so as not to cause the risk of explosion. The degree of shaking should be uniform and appropriate, so that the two liquid phases are fully miscible, so as to facilitate the transfer of the desired extract.
After shaking, let stand for a while. When the two liquid phases are clearly layered, the upper layer is mostly ethyl acetate phase, and the extracted material may be dissolved in it; the lower layer is the residual phase of the original liquid to be extracted.
At this time, carefully open the piston at the lower end of the separation funnel, so that the lower layer of liquid slowly flows out to the interface near the piston, and then stop. Then, carefully transfer the ethyl acetate phase from the upper layer to another vessel to obtain an ethyl acetate solution containing the extract.
After that, the resulting solution may need to be further processed, such as concentration, drying, etc., to obtain a pure extract. This all depends on the purpose and nature of the extract. The whole process, when following the rules, do not slack a little, in order to obtain good results.
