Cellulose Acetate vs Plastic
The debate between cellulose acetate and plastics

There are two things today, called cellulose acetate and plastics. The two are used in various applications, each has its own capabilities, and people often compare them.

Plastics have been around for a long time. They are light in weight, tough and durable, and have a variety of products, ranging from large-scale vehicles to small household utensils. And low in cost, easy to make on a large scale, it is widely used in the world, and everyone depends on it. However, it also has serious problems and is difficult to degrade. If you leave it in the wild, it will not be damaged for years, polluting the soil and harming life; if you burn it in the air, it will produce toxic smoke, damage the atmosphere, and harm all things.

Cellulose acetate, derived from natural cellulose, is made by chemical methods. Its properties are nearly natural, smooth to the touch, and breathable. It is used in textiles and comfortable to wear. And it has the ability to degrade. It is not long after being discarded and turned into nature, so it will not accumulate pollution and cause trouble. However, its fabrication method is more complicated and the cost is also high, so its use is not as wide as that of plastics.

From this perspective, although plastics are convenient and inexpensive, they have far-reaching harm; although cellulose acetate has the goodness of degradability, it is difficult to promote. If you want to find a way to do both, you should develop new technologies to reduce the cost of cellulose acetate fabrication and use it widely; you should also find a way to degrade plastics to reduce its harm. In this way, the two can each develop their strengths and be used by the world without causing harm to future generations.
