Analysis of black carbon sources

There are many ways to analyze black carbon sources. First, the receptor model method. Detailed measurement of the physical and chemical properties of black carbon, such as particle size distribution, chemical composition, etc., and mathematical models to analyze its sources. For example, the positive definite matrix factorization model can divide black carbon sources into several categories based on observed data, such as biomass combustion sources, fossil fuel combustion sources, etc. This model relies on a large number of measured data to accurately analyze the contributions of sources.

Second, the tracer method. Find specific tracers to prove the black carbon source. Biomass combustion can be traced according to the content of L-glucan; motor vehicle exhaust emissions can be detected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Measuring the concentration of tracers can infer the contribution of the corresponding source to black carbon.

Third, the source inventory method. Statistics of the activity levels of various emission sources in the area, such as industrial production, transportation, and residential life, calculate black carbon emissions according to emission factors. However, this method requires detailed information on the activities of various sources, and data acquisition is not easy.

Analyzing black carbon sources can reveal the laws of their transmission and transformation in the atmosphere. Only by knowing their sources can we strictly control high-contribution sources. If biomass combustion is the main source of black carbon, open burning can be restricted and the technology of clean utilization of biomass can be promoted; if motor vehicle exhaust is the main source, the fuel quality needs to be improved and the efficiency of tail gas purification needs to be improved.
