Preparation of Ammonium Acetate Solution

To make an ammonium acetate solution, it is necessary to understand the method. First prepare pure acetic acid and ammonia gas. For acetic acid, pure quality is preferred, and ammonia gas should also be clean and free of impurities.

Take an appropriate amount of water first and place it in a clean container. Slowly pass ammonia gas into the water, so that the ammonia gas can be dissolved in water to form ammonia water. The process should be slow to prevent its escape. When the ammonia gas is dissolved in an appropriate amount, then add acetic acid to the ammonia water dropwise, while adding it. For stirring, use a glass rod, even without damaging the device. When adding acetic acid, observe its reaction, and wait for the acid and alkali of the solution to be nearly neutral. This is the sign of ammonium acetate solution.

When preparing, the temperature and humidity of the environment are also affected. Room temperature is appropriate. If it is too high, ammonia will easily escape, and if it is too low, the reaction will be slow. And the prepared vessel must be clean and dry, free from impurities. The prepared ammonium acetate solution should be properly stored in a sealed bottle, protected from light and high temperature, to prevent its deterioration. In this way, a usable ammonium acetate solution can be obtained.
